The Violoncello as a Solo Instrument
"I love the cello`s profoundly human voice, never more human than when it is unaccompanied and
expresses the torments and the yearning of a solitary soul." (Benjamin Britten)
The violoncello has experienced considerable development as a solo instrument over the last fifty years, yet it is still astounding how underrepresented solo recitals are in the concert calendar – even more so considering the extent and quality of the repertoire available. Stephan Heber has been on the lookout for new pieces for solo cello since his student days and is constantly seeking to put together interesting programmes.
